"Ask and it shall be given you..." Matthew 7:7a

Updated August 16, 2010

Please join us in giving thanks for:

  • the wonderful weather that God provided for us.  The days were mostly sunny and warm, with very minimal rain and only a few days that were HOT.  This allowed the children to spend lots of time outside and gave the camp staff more options in planning activities and lessons.

  • the marvelous staff that worked so diligently and with such enthusiasm and energy at each camp.  We are especially thankful for our Camp Directors - Jenny and Katrina at Camp Peace, Tanya at Camp Grace, Natalie at Camp Hope, and Alex at Remix – and for our TeamLeaders – Domonique at Camp Peace, Caleb at Camp Grace, Michael at Camp Hope and Boman at Remix.  These talented people organized and planned and coordinated and encouraged and supervised and disciplined and delegated and answered a zillion questions and did it all with smiles!

  • the Interns (Harriet, Peter, Vivian, Johann) and all the StreetLeaders who gave up their summers to volunteer at our camps.  Anything that needed to be done, they did it!  They also provided valuable role models to the children and youth and shared their enthusiasms with everyone around them.

  • Coral, who has to live in the “now and not yet” as the Director of Interns and Volunteers.  She is simultaneously responsible for the Interns, WorkGroups and volunteers who are here, as well as those that she is recruiting to come in the fall.

  • Diedre and Vinson, who co-ordinated the StreetLeaders and Junior StreetLeaders and mentored the TeamLeaders and Assistant TeamLeaders.

  • Sarah, our Ministry Director, who stayed calm when everything was hectic, prepared the summer curriculum, answered questions, dealt with dilemmas and kept everything running smoothly.

  • Jo, who wrote the Summer Newsletter and updated the website and took photos and documented the summer so that we can share the highlights with you!

  • Cheryl and Judy who keep UrbanPromise running with all their “behind the scenes” tasks and conversations.

  • God’s protection over our camps.  We had no serious incidents or injuries and over 200 children were able to hear about the life of Jesus.

  • the churches that allowed us to “over-run” their facilities with dozens of excited children:  First Christian Reformed Church, Grandview Calvary Baptist Church and Whalley Presbyterian Church.

  • Sears Guildford who donated a freezer, Cobbs Bread who filled the freezer with bread, Splashdown Water Park that allowed us to bring all our children for a day of fun for free, Scotiabank at Broadway and Commercial who gave us soccer balls, City in Focus who gave us basketballs (and pumps and bags and other stuff), and everyone else who sent in money or supplies!

  • all the volunteers and WorkGroups who helped out this summer.  A fresh infusion of energy is such a blessing, especially in the latter weeks of camp.

  • everyone who prayed for us and to God who is ever faithful.

As we debrief from the summer and start to prepare for the fall, please pray with us:

  • for staff vacations.  Everyone except Judy will be on vacation next week and boy do we need it!  Cool Please pray that everyone will relax, rest and rejuvenate.

  • for Sarah as she prepares for the two weeks of training, orientation, planning and preparation that will precede the beginning of AfterSchool Program.

  • for all the children and youth who will join us on September 13th as we begin our fall programs.

  • for Coral as she recruits and trains new Interns.

  • for Diedre as she recruits and trains the StreetLeaders.

  • for Judy as she makes calls and writes letters and prepares proposals and trusts God to meet our budget shortfall of almost $50,000.  We know that God is faithful but when the numbers get large, it is so easy to start worrying.  Please pray that, during this time of testing, we will stay true in our belief that God will meet our every need.

  • for the donors to whom God is speaking.  Pray that every mind and heart will be open and receptive to God’s prompting and that our donors will help us to be creative and innovative in our fundraising.

Thank you for your ongoing support of UrbanPromise!  Your partnership with us is always an encouragement.
